While dinner feasts and Christmas cookies are at most every table and party during the holidays, our souls’ hunger is often pressed down.
I’m not here to remind you that Jesus is the Reason for the Season, since many other great Christian authors call us to this remembrance. But often between weekend Christmas parties, weeknight gift list shopping, and weekday budget crunching, we lose ourselves in the frantic holiday rush.
So here’s an essential list of holiday helps you and I can follow during this most wonderful – and busiest – time of the year.
My Soul’s Christmas List:
#2 Traveling/Wrapping Gifts: Whether we're on an airplane and have nothing to do with our hands or are on the floor with a tape dispenser strapped to both our hands, now is a great time to shut out the world and be attentive to God’s Word. Select play to a sermon podcast or a reading aloud of the Christmas story.
#3 Waiting in Line: This, quite possibly, is the most holiday-altering proposal. Waiting lines naturally stir us to become impatient, selfish and prideful. Let's counteract these impulses by using this time of slow-down to PRAY. Pray for our souls, our family and our friends, being thankful to God for the gift of His Son and the time we can stand still and talk with our Father.
