Have you ever had nightmares? Was it the boogie man? The serial rapist? The chain-saw murderer?
So how do we get rid of this fear? And how do we get rid of these nightmares? Well, our emotions stem from our way of thinking and our nightmares stem from our emotions. So, let’s concentrate on changing our thinking in order to drive away feelings of fear which should consequently get rid of terrible nightmares.
How to get rid of Fear/Nightmares
Second, study the sovereignty, love and goodness of God.
--God alone is in control of everything that happens on this earth, so nothing will ever happen that goes against His will. Read Psalm 99:1; 1 Timothy 6:15; Job 37:5-13; Ephesians 1:11
--God is good and has no evil within Him. Read Deuteronomy 32:3-4; Psalm 5:4
--God is love. He has already passed the ultimate test of love – dying for someone else. Jesus did so on the cross for us. Read 1 John 4:8; Romans 5:6-8; Ephesians 2:1-9; Psalms 36:5-7
Thus, from these three truths we can deduce that God allows everything to happen on earth for the good of those He loves (Read Romans 8:28-39). Consider this: if Christ loves us enough to die for our sins and secure our eternal salvation why do we doubt His daily love and kindness? In our finite, sinful hearts and minds we cannot always understand His great plan, but we can understand and trust the truths He’s revealed to us in the Bible. Read Romans 11:33-36; Isaiah 55:8-9
Thirdly, do not fear but trust in God. It’s a good thing to read and know the scriptures outlined above, but it’s only a powerful thing if we believe that these promises of Scripture are true and actively put our faith in God. Trust in Him. You won’t be disappointed. Read Psalm 27:1; 56:3-4; Matthew 10:29-30; 1 John 4:18; Proverbs 3:5-6; Psalm 27:13-14; 91:1-2
Fourthly, don’t be naïve or foolish, but be wise and prudent. Take precautions and lock your doors, shut your windows, etc. This might even involve investigating Christian scientific research of the impossibility of alien invasions! In addition, plot a fire escape plan for your house and other discerning in-case-of-emergency plan of actions. God created you with a brilliant mind and wants you to exercise it while trusting in Him, not in your human planning, in others or in your dead-bolt locks. Read Proverbs 1:5, 31-33; 6:6-11; 13:16; 8:5; 27:12
By Praying for Help, Studying the Bible, Trusting in God, and Living Prudently we will rid ourselves of fear and remove the ammunition from our nightmares. No fear means no nightmares!*
