Spring is Here!
But today I'm reminded in Isaiah 40 that just as plants abruptly appear in spring so they will disappear once again. Isaiah uses this illustration to show how a man is alive today and gone tomorrow. James borrows the illustration to emphasize the foolishness of trusting in material prosperity (James 1:9-11) and Peter utilizes it to stress the fleeting nature of everything connected to humanity (1 Peter 1:23-25).
"But the Word of God stands forever"
When it comes to trials and temptations of prosperity,
...the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away. James 1:9-11
for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. For,
“All flesh is like grass,
And all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
And the flower falls off,
But the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word which was preached to you. 1 Peter 1:23-25
I pray these Scriptures will stay in our minds as we start a new week.
How are you planning to live this fleeting week in light of the illustration and truth of Isaiah 40:8?
